Important spelling rules
- ALL nouns are written with a capital first letter! -e.g. das Haus (the house)
- Capitals also signal the start of a new sentence, that is why we write “Danke” with a capital first letter when it stands alone.
- In terms of “Guten Abend” we write “Guten” with a capital first letter because it is at the beginning of the sentence and “Abend” with a capital first letter because it is a noun (der Abend)
Important punctuation rules
- At the end of a sentence there is a “Punkt” (.) full stop.
- At the end of a question there is a “Fragezeichen” (?) question mark.
